If you are a coach or consultant, not a clinical health professional, Practice Better's full EHR feature set is probably more than you need, and there are lighter, cheaper tools built specifically for coaching: Paperbell, CoachAccountable, and Simply.Coach are the closest real matches, with Bonsai as a broader business-tool option. Every one of them still keeps the client's history inside the practitioner's paid account, the same design Practice Better uses. Pupul is not a like-for-like alternative to any of them; it does not schedule, invoice, or chart. It is the one thing none of these five tools offer: a record the client owns and keeps, no matter which of them you use to run your practice.
Every price below is checked against the vendor's own site the same day this page was published. Where a claim could not be verified, it was left out.
An all-in-one coaching business platform: scheduling, payments through Stripe or PayPal with zero Paperbell transaction fee, e-signature contracts, and an automated client portal. A free plan is available with no credit card required. One flat plan, unlimited clients, sessions, files, and packages. Closest fit if your real bottleneck is booking and getting paid, not clinical charting.
Priced by active client count rather than by tier: every plan includes the full feature set, and only clients you are actively working with count against your bill. A 30-day free trial is offered. Worth a look if you want every feature at every price point and your roster fluctuates.
A tiered coaching platform: 1:1 and group coaching, survey forms, contracts, and programs at the entry tier, scaling up to unlimited clients, a whitelabelled platform, and a custom domain at the top tier. A 14-day free trial is offered, no credit card required. The cheapest entry point on this list if you are coaching a handful of clients.
Not a coaching-specific tool: Bonsai is a broader freelance business platform (proposals, invoicing, time tracking, client management) that coaches also use for the business side of the practice. Worth considering if you want one tool across coaching and other freelance work, not just coaching.
Not a like-for-like alternative to the four above: Pupul does not schedule sessions, take payments, or chart clinically. What it does is the one thing none of them do, which is hand the client an append-only, signed record of their own history that they keep and can share with whoever they see next, on any of the platforms above. Run it alongside whichever scheduling and billing tool you already use.
None of the five options above replace Practice Better's clinical charting and HIPAA-oriented recordkeeping. If that is what you actually need, this page is not for you, and staying on Practice Better, or a comparable clinical EHR, is the right call.
Profi.io, a coaching and consulting platform, announced in late 2025 that it was being acquired and winding down its current platform, with existing customers retaining access only through December 31, 2025. It is not one of the five alternatives above, precisely because it is no longer a live option. It is a plain, current example of the exact risk a client-owned record is built to survive: a vendor's business decision should not be able to erase a client's history, and in a practitioner-owned account, it can.
Pupul is free software and a free first client read, and it runs beside whichever tool above you already pay for.
