Pupul vs Practice Better

Practice Better keeps the record in your account. Pupul keeps it with the client.

Practice Better is a real, full-featured EHR and practice-management platform for health and wellness professionals, and it is good at that job. Pupul is not an EHR, does not do scheduling or billing, and is never used for clinical or health decisions. The one place the two actually overlap is client history, and on that one point they are built opposite ways: Practice Better's record lives inside your paid subscription, Pupul's record lives with the client. Everything below is what that difference actually costs and buys, with every price checked against each vendor's own site.

Fair warning

When you should pick Practice Better instead

Practice Better is the right call if

You are a therapist, dietitian, medical provider, or any health professional who needs clinical charting, HIPAA-oriented recordkeeping, scheduling, and billing in one system. Practice Better is built for exactly that, and Pupul is not. Pupul Practitioner is explicitly never used for therapy, medical, or mental health care, so if your practice is clinical rather than coaching or advisory work, this comparison does not apply to you: Practice Better is the better-fit tool, full stop.

The one thing Pupul does that Practice Better structurally cannot

Practice Better's business model requires the client's record to live inside a paid account, because the record is part of what the subscription protects. A tool built that way cannot hand the client an independently portable, append-only copy of their own history without changing what it sells. Pupul inverts that on purpose: the client's file is append-only, every entry a practitioner signs is checkpointed and signed, and the client can revoke a practitioner's access or move the file to someone else without asking anyone's permission, including ours.

FAQ

The questions people actually ask

What is the actual difference between Pupul and Practice Better?
Practice Better is a full EHR and practice-management platform: clinical charting, scheduling, billing, and a client portal, built for health and wellness professionals. Pupul does none of that. Pupul is client intake and session software built on a single idea: the record belongs to the client, not the practitioner's account, so it survives a cancellation or a switch. The overlap between the two products is narrow, and this page only compares that overlap.
Is Pupul a replacement for Practice Better?
No. Practice Better does clinical charting, scheduling, and billing. Pupul does none of those. If you need an EHR, keep Practice Better. Pupul is the client-owned record layer that sits beside whatever practice software you already run, coaching and advisory work only.
Does Pupul do scheduling or billing like Practice Better?
No. Pupul does not touch scheduling, invoicing, or payment processing. Keep those wherever they already run. Pupul is only the client's own standing record and the signed entries a practitioner adds to it.
Can I use Pupul alongside my existing Practice Better account?
Yes. Pupul is not a practice-management system, so it does not compete with the parts of Practice Better you use for charting, scheduling, or billing. A client can hold a Pupul file and still be a client in your Practice Better account.
Is Pupul HIPAA compliant, or built for health professionals?
No. Pupul Practitioner is for coaching, consulting, and advisory work only. It is never used for therapy, medical care, mental health care, or any clinical or health decision. If you are a health professional needing a compliant clinical record system, Practice Better is built for that and Pupul is not the right tool.
How much does Pupul cost compared to Practice Better?
Practice Better runs $35 to $155 a month depending on plan, billed whether or not you see a client that month. Pupul's software is free, your first client read is free, and after that it is $39 per client read, $390 for a block of ten, or $1,990 a year unlimited once you are running roughly 50 reads a year.
Can a client bring their file if their old practitioner used Practice Better?
Only if that practitioner exported the client's data and handed it over, since Practice Better's record lives inside the practitioner's account. A Pupul file has no equivalent step: the client already holds it, so they share it with the next practitioner directly, with nothing to request from anyone.
